Bromyard Sessions : October News

It’s been a slightly quieter month for music in Bromyard but that is purely relative as September was so busy with the Folk Festival, the “Bromyard Sessions Concert” and lots of other events.

On a personal note Brigid and I took a week off at the beginning of October and spent a very tranquil week in a rented cottage in the depths of Carmarthenshire. I am hoping to record a new CD in the next couple of months so wanted a quiet break to work out some new material. I ended up writing four new songs and learning several others which I can now knock into shape by playing them in the sessions. I also ended up playing one night in the local pub; not sure what the locals thought but at least some enjoyed it!

The session at the Hop Pole at the beginning of the month was well attended and brought in some new players and listeners. There are a couple of other musical events planned this month for the Hop Pole which is going to help support the notion that Bromyard is the town to visit for live music. Finally I still meet the odd person who doesn’t realise the Hop Pole is no longer the dump it was. It has been refurbished in great style, the beer is good (Woods & Hobsons), the food is excellent and the atmosphere and welcome first class. So lose the bad memories and come along to see for yourself on November 4th when we hold our next session.

I didn’t make it to the Green Dragon session this month but it continues to attract good numbers from across the county. It’s probably the most traditional of our sessions so if you like sea shanties and folk dance tunes it’s a great choice. The session at the Falcon continues to attract high quality singers and musicians and is a very enjoyable evening. The session in November will be on the 18th so make a note in your diary to come along.

Also don’t forget our Sunday evening session at the Rose and Lion. This takes place every Sunday, features a number of exciting new performers and generates a great atmosphere.

The big news of the month is the imminent release of a CD featuring highlights of the Bromyard Sessions concert at the Falcon Mews in September. It features 17 tracks from Typsy Jazz, Foxtail Soup, Ken Crowther, Dave Haigh, Brian Jones, Tony Burt, David and Huw, Tony Stanton and others. It’s a top quality recording with some great music. I believe the cost will be £8.50 and it will be available in a number of outlets, probably including the Honeypot. Any profits will go towards booking a top name for the Music Festival next May, of which more news later.

Here are a couple of tracks to download that didn’t make the final cut of the disk. Still good stuff though. These are high quality mp3′s so may take a while to download. Double click on the link to play the track or to download to your PC, right mouse click then select "Save Target As" and choose where you want to save the file.

Download Typsy Jazz : Angelo’s Waltz
