Comment on Remi Harris Trio by Tony Burt

What a fantastic night it turned out to be at the Crown last night.

I've been listening to Remi for a few years now and honestly didn't think there was much scope for improvement - he was so good! But last night he was significantly better than I've ever heard him before. The dazzling fast runs were there as ever but there was a new subtlety in some of the playing. And the material was broader than before too.

This young man is already a star but I'm sure he will soon be recognised as such by a much wider audience. Not to forget his two sidemen. Tom on bass showed great technique on double bass, even more surprising in view of his young age. Ben on rhythm guitar provided a bedrock over which Remi could play with total freedom. And I'm sure his right wrist is made of rubber!

Let's hope we can repeat this sell out night soon. But get in early as it will sell out even quicker next time.

Should have said, for non-Bromyardians, that the Queens Arms is on Bromyard High Street opposite the chemist.

Went along last night. Lovely music and singing from Loxley. Shame Leominster didn't support the event but those of us who went had a really good evening.

Loxley are Sally Stamford, Arthur Hyde and John Eyre.

Loxley have had a very busy year entertaining at folk clubs and festivals all over the country, from Devon to Derbyshire, West Wales to Leicestershire and places in between. December is the month for them to stay at home in Herefordshire and concentrate on finishing their much requested CD. The Lion Ballroom on 17th December is a rare opportunity to see them locally.

"Loxley are a harmonic, contemporary, progressive folk trio who have a collection of songs and music that is beguiling, intriguing. If Loxley were a book, we understand, it would be one far from easy to put down. The material sweeps and sways - most gently - from traditional influence to contemporary folk, from the 16th century to 21st century. " Folk on the Lawn Music Festival

"Loxley - the Robin Hoods of folk music, robbing from their amazing skills and repertoire to give us their music and songs - delivered with such wonderful harmonies and infectious joy, we never want them to stop." Miriam Backhouse

Also, from South Africa, including in her 2011 four month tour of Britain, is Miriam Backhouse. Folk song fans in Herefordshire will remember Miriam, who played a significant role in the folk revival, appearing at most of the Folk Clubs and Festivals of the in the 70s, including Edinburgh and Cambridge, with acclaim from all the leading critics of the day. Miriam's interpretation of traditional and modern folk songs are unique, and her ability to lead a Folk audience into chorus singing, particularly, 'Keys of Canterbury' at Cambridge Folk Festival 1976, is the stuff of legends.

The Lion Ballroom, 17th December at 8:00pm. Tickets £10 from Gill's Gifts, Buttercross Arcade, Leominster or on the door.

Hello, I am emailing you on behalf of The Worcestershire Literary Festival and Theo Theobold, the Worcestershire Poet Laureate.
We were wondering if you would you be interested in having Theo perform some of his poetry or even compare any time at the festival.

You can find out all about Theo by following the link below:

http://www.worcslitfest.com/poetlaureate/

As well as being a remarkable poet, Theo is also a cracking bloke! A fun and engaging personality with a very entertaining style, sure to add to any Worcester experience!

Looking forward to hearing from you
