Just been informed that a new session has started at the Galton Arms at Himbleton which is not far from Droitwich and not far from Worcester. Postcode is WR9 7LQ.
It meets on the 3rd Sunday of the month, I’m guessing in the evening but don’t have any confirmation of that. If anyone knows please post a comment.
I haven’t visited the Galton for many years but for a major slice of my life it was one of my regular haunts. I played cricket occasionally for Himbleton but as the knees packed up ended up playing for Dick McCann’s All Stars who were based at the Galton and played on various ploughed fields around the village.
Dick McCann, landlord of the Galton, was legendary and became a really close friend over the years. We had many great sessions there in the 80s and early 90s and the trick was to ask Dick to play a tune on his accordeon at about 10.45. This was before extended opening and if you could get him playing it would go on till 2 or 3 in the morning. Happy days!
Then he became very ill, recovered but had to sell up because he couldn’t make the pub pay. He died in the mid 90′s at a guess and was missed by many of us. A huge character and a lovely fellow.
I hope the session thrives and it reminds me to get over there some time soon. Hope it hasn’t changed too much!
