Tag Archives: folk music

Folk music is the most important element of this website which aims to publicise all acoustic music sessions in Herefordshire, the West of Worcestershire, the South of Shropshire and the North of Gloucestershire. We even sometimes cover events just over the border in Wales. Our calendar lists these events in a concise way and where possible we create blog posts with fuller detail.

But what do we mean by folk music? We interpret it as broadly as possible and focus more on the artist and the environment than the actual material. A young man strumming an Oasis song in the pub is something we would encourage and recognise as folk. A classically trained tenor warbling a Vaughan Williams arrangement with a string quartet is something we might admire but we wouldn’t think of it as folk.
