The Talbot at Knightwick

The folk session returned to the Back Bar last night after renovations necessitated by the floods of last July. The refurbishment has made a vast improvement to both ambience and acoustics, and it goes without saying that the ale was as good as ever it was. Not quite so many people (only 14) turned out this month but that was due to Easter holidays and other committments which I knew about anyway. Be good to see some 'new' faces one of these months. JT

The landlady and landlord are very supportive and have kindly promised lots of butties, so lets make it a great first night!

New Session at Wheatsheaf

The Chis Moreton Gig at Rushwick Folk Club went spectacularly well on Saturday - what a phenominal night! We're definitely going to invite Chris again - probably next year.

I'm starting a new session at the Wheatsheaf on the A44 at Whitbourne, featuring country music and bluegrass - all other styles welcome as well, of course. It will be the last Tuesday of each month, starting on March 25th. However, some people are itching to get going before then, so if anybody wants to contact me via my website www.rushwickfolk.com (use the email link on the site), we can arrange an "unofficial" session before then if there are sufficient numbers. The Wheatsheaf management have kindly offered to provide sandwiches.

The Admiral Rodney/The Talbot, Knightwick

Just to update all readers and authors on the situation concerning the Admiral Rodney folk sessions. As many of you will be aware the session was suspended at the Rodney a few months ago due to discontent caused by poor ale qualtity and other issues. I am pleased to say that there is a new team in charge at the Rodney and local advice is that there has been a rapid and remarkable recovery of standards and quality, so much so that the new licencees are extremely keen to get a folk session up and running again. With this in mind it is planned to go and talk to the new people so that a convenient night can be decided upon on which to hopefully hold the folk nights without clashing with other live music session in the immediate area, i.e The Talbot and The Mason's Arms. Updates on the situation will be posted as soon as.

For those I don't have email addresses for - The Talbot is happening this Wednesday (6th Feb) in the Gold Room (Back Bar undergoing refit/renovation).

Hopefully see some of you there.

The Talbot (2nd Jan) : Green Dragon (8th Jan)

TheTalbot had a full lively session with 24 people listeningand playing. Back Bar renovations yet to start, but we still enjoyed the evening.

Green Dragon severley depleted again due in the main to colds, flus and pressure of work, despite whcih the twelve people that were there made the most if it, and kept the music/song going well past 10-30.

Up-coming sessions at Kempsey on Sunday (13th) and Falcon, Bromyard on Tuesday (15th).

SESSIONS AT THE CROSS KEYS, SUCKLEY

This session is on the third Friday of the month.  Sorry, that means you have just missed the November session, which was very enjoyable.  As usual, a good mix of song and music from various traditions.  We thought we had cleared the pub earlier on but it filled up again later.  Free chip butties for musicians.

Falcon Hotel, Bromyard

John, the landlord of the Falcon Hotel in Bromyard, came along for the last hour of the Rosie session last night and expressed an interest in hosting a monthly session at his place. Along with the Rosie, the Falcon is a Bromyard institution so worth considering especially as our session at the Holly Tree is in doubt as it has changed hands and is currently closed.

So we could replace the Holly Tree on the 3rd Tuesday, or if that continues, have a session at the Falcon on the 4th Tuesday to fill out the month.

I've arranged to go have a chat this week with John and Sylvia and will report back. If anyone has any input on the issue I'd welcome it. Just post a comment and add to the debate.

Green Dragon, Bishop's Frome

Green_dragon_23_4 The Green Dragon at Bishop's Frome hosts a very popular session on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. There are usually at least 10 to 15 performers and it has been a lot higher. There is loads of energy and much good music, with very few pauses so that everyone has maximum opportunity to participate. Get there before 8.30 to be sure of a seat!

The pub itself is excellent too! 5 real ales and a welcoming atmosphere. Current Herefordshire CAMRA Country Pub of the Year!

Cross Keys, Linley Green

As far as I am aware there is a session at the Cross Keys, Linley Green (or is it Suckley?) on the 3rd Friday of the month. Anyone able to confirm that?
